In Java 21, yes. A virtual thread that blocks inside a synchronized block stays stuck to its carrier thread, so other virtual threads cannot use that carrier. Java 24 fixed this for synchronized (JEP 491), so on Java 24 and 25 it no longer pins. Native frames and class initialisation can still pin, so ReentrantLock is still worth knowing.
