Redis shows up in almost every backend interview, usually through caching questions: how do you avoid a stampede, why is the cache stale, why does @Cacheable do nothing? This guide answers 50 questions in six sections: Redis fundamentals, caching patterns and failure modes, the Spring Cache abstraction, Spring Data Redis, distributed patterns such as locks, rate limiters and idempotency keys, and persistence, replication, Cluster and operations.
50 questions in 6 sections, 50 code examples in a 65-page PDF (2026 edition).

Read the quick answer first and say it aloud, then open the explanation and check what you missed. Try the redis-cli commands against a local Redis, and explain the failure-mode questions (stampede, penetration, avalanche, invalidation) in your own words.
A stampede (thundering herd) happens when a popular key expires and many requests miss at the same moment, so they all recompute it and hit the database together. Prevent it by letting only one caller rebuild the value (a per-key lock or single-flight), refreshing hot keys before they expire, serving stale data while one request refreshes, and adding TTL jitter.
