This guide covers the POM and the lifecycle, plugins and goals, dependency scopes and conflict resolution, multi-module builds, parent POMs and BOMs, repositories and publishing, Spring Boot packaging and Docker images, quality gates, build speed, and troubleshooting.
62 questions in 7 sections, 62 code examples and 5 diagrams in a 59-page PDF (2026 edition).

Run mvn dependency:tree on one of your own projects while reading the dependency section, and explain one conflict you find using the nearest-wins rule.
Maven builds the dependency graph, and when the same artifact appears at several versions it applies mediation: the version closest to your project in the tree wins (shortest path); if two paths are equally close, the first one declared wins. It does not pick the highest version. A direct declaration always beats any transitive one, and dependencyManagement overrides everything.
